CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — There were numerous power outages reported throughout the North Central West Virginia region as of 3 p.m. Monday, according to MonPower's outage map.
The map showed around 2.8% of customers in Harrison County, or around 896 customers, were without power due to Monday afternoon's storms.
Around 17.2% of customers in Marrion County, or 5,207 customers, were also without power.
Outages were also reported in Upshur, Doddridge, Taylor, Monongalia and Barbour counties, according to the map.
The Harrison/Taylor 911 log reported multiple roadway obstructions caused by falling trees shortly after 2 p.m. in Mannington, Salem and Shinnston.
Around 2:30 Monday afternoon, Gov. Justice declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties in the state.
The State of Preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to posture personnel and resources for quick response to any emergency that may develop. Coordinating agencies have been placed on standby to report to the State Emergency Operations Center should the need arise.
Justice and the WVEMD asked West Virginians to remain attentive to weather conditions through local media reports and follow any instructions issued by emergency officials.
As of 7 p.m. Monday evening, services had been restored for many Mon Power customers across Harrison and Marion Counties.
2,267 customers, or 7.52% of Mon Power customers in Marion County were still affected by the thunderstorms, and 124, or less than one percent of Mon Power customers in Harrison County were still without power.
Tree limbs which fell creating obstructions in the roadways and pulling down power lines have already been cut up and hauled away, according to a 911 supervisor.
For the latest updates on the severe weather, citizens are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, follow instructions from emergency management officials, and have a way to receive weather alerts, especially after dark.
